Ways to land a great job?

I'm going to be sending out my CV to a few agencies directly and want to try and make a good first impression.

Any tried and tested ideas on making youself stand out rather than just sending an A4 CV?

A jar of retro sweeties for the office?

Seriously though I've read about folk making giant fold out CV's, sending a CV somebody had to build and stuff like that. Yeah there creative but a lot of the time I'm guessing the person that is reading the CV's won't have time to sit and figure out how to read the thing. They are probably busy people, or at least I'd hope they are if not why would you want to work there. Yeah it'll probably catch there eye but only because it takes up the most room in the bin.

That's just my opinion though. I'd love to spend ages on my own CV but I'd rather spend time having a decent portfolio ready for an interview if my simple CV was good enough to get me an interview.

Good advice.

I was thinking about sending something fun with a standard CV, like a flat-packed item made of card that they could build.

It's a fine line between good and shite though, I guess.

walk into an agency naked and write your cv in permanent marker over your body... it will get you noticed at least.. not sure about job prospects but you will certainly make an impression.

Find out who you're sending your cv to, and personalize it to them.

Have full size stand up cut out images of yourself made so prospective employers can leave them around the office to see how you will fit in.

Act out... find something the studio manager or hiring person loves and tailor make something that will have huge stand out whilst presenting yourself as an ideal candidate for any job openings.

Examples: Typographic pizza, huge objects, things to evoke their own memories, something for them to see/find on their way to work, something on the street outside that they can see from their high-rise window, etc.

I posted my resume online and got a call the very next day, and have been working there for almost two years.

I take what I do very seriously, and put a lot of effort into what I do..... so... like I said, be good at what you do and they'll find YOU!

Me too! Over here in the states I've had luck with headhunters finding my website/resume online and then they battle for the best job...Which in turn means more money for them and me...It's a win win. While I've been at my current job, 2 head hunters called me and offered other jobs - they weren't so great though. I'm not bragging here at all - it's taken about 8 years for this to happen.

Unfortunately it's also who you know...Personally, I don't know anyone - really, so that never helped matters. Plus the people that you do actually get to meet that are working that SHIT HOT JOB at the place you would've loved to work at - turns out they're total wieners and you'll be glad you never actually got that old job you would've died for. (This has happened MANY times.)

GOOD LUCK

btw...I think something got lost in translation...WTF is a CV?

It's good old fashioned Latin... Curriculum Vitae. Resume in the US I think.

They use the term 'CV' here in Japan a fair bit in the English job pages. I had no idea what they were talking about myself! Fortunately I have British friends, and just happened to ask one of them.

Well ...

I sure don't know much about it (I'm 15), but in Denmark, where I live, statistics says that people who are networking to find jobs (asking family, friends, old relatives, etc.) generally have a high success in getting their desired job.
The method has worked perfectly well for me on a number of occasions.

Were there really 100 different places you'd be happy to work? I can only think of a couple for myself.

Never would've even guessed it.

I suppose I could've asked my husband since he's british...but he doesn't have the answers to most questions I ask, so he just makes things up. BTW he also has a absolute horrible ability to recognize obvious actors in movies(not sure if it's a brit thing or that he's just retarded)...quite hilarious most of the time, really. He was very close though recently...the manager of chelsea looks like the US actor "gene hackman" I was astounded.
