is it possible to execute .cgi files in IIS

hi everyone!...I'm testing some authentication software in win 2000 server IIS 5, and after installing perl, I created a cgi-bin directory in IIS, and extracted all the files there, but the files come with a .cgi extension, and when called by the browser it doesn't do anything, I get the impression that IIS it doesn't know what to do with it...am I missing something here?...I downloaded this software from a perl/cgi website, and it is suppose to authenticate based on cookie and give access to a private portion of the website...or if someone could point me to a software that uses some sort of cookie authentication..

thanks in advance
