I'm really surprised Steve Jobs gave the okay on this one. What a terrible identity.

Saw it last night and thought it was OK, but seeing it now again it looks very Microsoft orientated.

My respect for Apple's product design is beginning to trump my respect for their graphic design.

the product mobileme is no longer seen as exclusive to mac.
the new snow leopard will run on pc and they need a brand to interact with that and to reflect mac/ pc.

the strategy is to get pc users to buy iphone / mobile me (esp now exchange is built in).

it works on many levels.

dullards.

They said it will be a true 64bit OS and will have better Exchange support for businesses but I didn't read anywhere that it will run on PC's. Can't see Apple doing that.

Been at the meth?

I like the new .mac ident, and will be a conscientious subscriber. Always been tempted by .mac. Once I get me -phone it'll be the shits I tell ye.

Logo ain't bad. Just dumbed down to appeal to design ignorant windows users.

It's not too sophisticated, but does the job for the average joe as mentioned above?

(I'm guessing they're going with taking on new 'simple' customers and not convincing the hardcores that it's robust/safe/faster than current alternative syncing methods, etc.)

apparently eric spiekermann has been appointed by microsoft to consult on matters of design and typography

They need it though their design department must be a bit backwards.

could it be the break-up of apples business?

the me brand floating off with the mobile/music/tv

leaving apple to stick to computers/software.

could be a very good thing... if mr jobby stays on the good side.

What's interesting for web developers who hate IE: MobileME will NOT support IE6 at all.

Kill the beast and move on I say.

Thats weird as I was at a talk that Spiekermann did last year where he said he hated Microsoft and would never worked for them as they ripped off the designs of his mate Adrian Frutiger (for vista) who was very ill.
