Microsoft hardware bad build quality shocker. At least they seem to be doing the gentlemanly thing and swapping out units. Good on 'em. Probably be that the new units your getting have the very same suicidal tendency though. Not good in the long run. Give that beast plenty of room to breathe! I bought it second hand, it was only a month old though. The warranty ran out lat July. I read online that Microsoft are extending the warranty to three years from purchase date and those people with three red lights are getting them fixed for free. I turned the xbox on today (the towel thing didn't work yesterday) Got four red lights, so I searched for it and apparently if the AV cable is out you will get four. When I put the cable back in and tried again the xbox started up as normal. So hopefully everything is fine with it now. It still flashed three red lights when the AV cable was in yesterday. Weird - hopefully it's sorted itself out now. |

Mine got three red lights. Microsoft replaced it free of charge, as well as collecting and returning it to my work via UPS. They also gave me a free month of xbox live, which was useless, but still a nice and unneccesary gesture. Who'd have thought Microsoft would have good customer service. |

Every single early xbox is going to die this way from what I've seen. I think it was a manufacturing flaw, something to do with dry joints or the CPU seating on the motherboard... the towel method basically heats it up and melts the components back into place. unconsolidated isoparms
