Congrats on the new job! And 17K is better than a punch in the face.

Indeed Steve, 17k is better than a punch in the face.

I left my old job on a career break for 3 years to complete my degree, and was earning roughly the same there. However, work was mundane and going nowhere so I decided to get out.

Really thought I might have to go back there following my degree and wait sometime before I managed to get into the industry, looks like I got lucky.

My new role sounds very varied (which suits me down to the ground) so I should get to play with lots of different technologies and techniques. They're also a pretty big company, so I guess I'll be rewarded if I do well.

Finish all of my Uni stuff on Monday, then I get a few weeks to enjoy my new boy, and then start my new job.

Life is sweet!

Good to hear people doing well mate.

Still haven't heard about mine, apparently they've been delayed so I should hear mid-next week. Bastards.

17k is fine to start on, you'll probably find that following an impressive 3-6 months, they'll whack it up a bit anyway, once you've proved how marvelous you are.

Yeah, that would work.

It's not a bad thing to get a foot in the door and start out doing a bit of everything, as long as that doesn't include acting as general gopher and teabag filler. You can get a lot of experience in a short time. Don't forget that no-one expects you to know it all straight off the bat, so don't be shy to ask for help and other peoples' opinions. They know the house style too, which might save you from a few fuckups.

I think Charlie doesn't understand exchange rates. 17k is about 34k in the US. Better than my first job. Nice one, pagey!
