well its not bloody hillman curtis!! lol everyone says how good he is but he uses big gifs on the site instead of text why? who knows.
I have seen Pixelrangers site before, its very nice but the guy is up his own arse- saw him on a forum a while ago and all he did was put peoples designs down and proclaim his genius.
Dont think Ive got a favourite, there are so many that I admire.

While it's good to keep up with what's fresh out there in design land, becoming too obsessed with a designer or style can only end up hurting you in the end. Once that style is no longer hip, you're no longer relevant

Agreed : You should have your own style anyway.
Read an interesting article on Designiskinky about styles - http://www.designiskinky.net/theory/theory6.html

Hey Oli,

In my own defense, I try and make a point of HARDLY EVER commenting on other designers sites. Why is that? Because I am always afraid of people coming back and saying something like "Oh the guys at 2A dont like this or dont like that"

The only things I generally talk about on message boards are in regards to 2A sites when they launch. Some people like to hear about why things were done on 2A sites. Some people dont like to be told reasons they simply like to bash. Maybe you read the wrong thread. I'm pretty positive you are referring to a thread on Flashkit where the designer in question soo bady immitated the 2A site that both myself and David Martin from Fantasy Interfaces had to let the guy know why he was wrong in creating the site he did.

If I have ever commented negatively on another message board about a designer or site, it has been where that person has stolen graphics, stolen sounds, ripped a site or sooo badly imitated a 2A site that I felt necessary to slam them. In any case I have only ever been negative where it is deserved.

in ending I have never proclaimed any such genious. on the contrary I personally find myself to be a gracious, god loving individual who likes helping other people.

If you would like to read more about myself and my history you can read an interview I did at Favourite Website Awards. Simply click the link at the bottom saying "Interviews". I am interview #69.

http://www.favouritewebsiteawards.com/home.html

To continue the thread of best designers my favorites happen to be my friends. David Martin of Fantasy Interfaces www.fantasyinterfaces.com, Mark W. of 2Advanced www.probe3.com, Yasuto Suga www.rayoflight.net and of course Eric Jordan www.2advanced.com.

If you are talking artists..then I am a big fan of www.cubadust.com and www.chapter3.net

Best of luck all

Shane

Hi Pixelranger, personally I have always liked your site - the style and feel of the whole thing is great. I saw your posting on WHT a while a go and you were putting down all the designers on there saying they were stuck in the ninties etc. Just got my back up a bit as I was one of the designers on there!

hmmm

Personally, it's a matter of style to me. I have yet to see a designer who is master of everything although I do have certain favorites for certain things. When I want to see all out actionscript dominance, I go to Yugop.com. If I want to see absolutely beautiful imagery everytime, I head to onyro.com. It all depends on what I'm lookin for at the moment, so I can't really say I have one particular favorite.

Pixelranger

I have the greatest respect for the craftmansship and innovation in Pixelrangers work but the term "Presentation over substance" comes to mind while browsing his websites.
Call me a dinosaur, but content, good navigation and fastloading pages are still king in my mind especially when it comes to corporate websites.

I think that fewer people will return to a website if they have to negotiate a loading screen and watch the interface being build everytime.

Anyone dissagree?

Posted twice oli :P - O.k from the perspective of a relitivly non desinger/consumer oppionin! i would have to say that anything with a loading page is not "down in my bag" tbh - i 2 also checked out PixelRanger and Anders Schröder's amazing designers however i just get the feeling of agrevation when i visit i site which they have - its tooo hard to follow so much happening at the 1 time the best way to go imo is simplicity! dont ya think? - yeah tis cool showing how good a designer u are! but tbh it is stupid showing so much talent on a screen and a user not being able to funtion it 100% - well thats my 2 cents - i waits for replies
