People who get a 1st are usually either exceptionally talented - in which case they don't tend to worry about it, or the type of student who didn't go out and socialise much at uni.

Do people want to employ the guy who spent his three year uni experience in his room studying? Not really.

That's what the local pub landlord said to me when I graduated.

My university is so bad, If it wasn't for my own freelance clients I would of been put off design from the second year.

Unless you get a first you should consider yourself and failure

My parents don't care what I get as long as i'm alive and well. Haha. They'd rather have me alive than dead thank you.

i have found threw experience that there is one of two ways to get ahead, school, or work your way up.whatever path you choose, understand, thta unless you are a godsend at something, you are not going to start out with a perfect job..its takes time to build your name, but a portfolio will go farther than a degree will

Surely the better the degree the better the portfolio? Unless your degree is soley based on written work... which hardly any creative degrees are.

The only reason I didnt get a 1st was because I didn't give a crap about the dissertation and basically waffled for however many thousands of words I was meant to have written...

I didnt go to uni to get a 1st, I went so I could get a good portfolio of work, which would in turn get me a job. Now im in the industry, my portfolio is better and that will in turn get me an even better job.

Hopefully a pay rise to something like 5p an hour aswell... i cant wait!!

I went to Uni for an education, a basis in theory - what I got was three years of creative freedom to explore different areas of design and process, a solid understanding of design theory and semantics and nothing about the actual business of design, as a result when I initially left I was at a dis-advantage to those who had 'worked their way up', this soon disappears with a little experience and I believe that the time spent getting the degree puts me on a slightly better footing now

a degree better be the way to go. If not four years of my life have been pointless.

I've learnt alot in my time at uni but i feel more industry experience along with uni would be better. I'm not in it for getting a first. I'd be happy if i got one but it's good portfolio of work i'm looking forward to. The good thing about uni is that you can do real briefs but in a make belive world. Perfect client and unlimited budget. Would be good to learn about money skills and how to handle clients who are arseholes.
