I believe my first design job was to make a template for a design forum or a tee shirt design. Can't quite remember which was first, but it was good experience.

A friend's small web hosting business. Still up, in fact. It was in exchange for free hosting, I believe.

My first web job-job (as in, full-time) was with a technology company focused on security, counter-terrorism, and related technologies.

First paid job? Ummm... some photo/layout montages for ?What If! - got £350 or so for an days work and was hooked!

First unpaid job: various sites/visuals/ideas for friends and family.

A local village deli. It was nothing complicated, really. A bit of advertising and fancy graphics. Paid well enough

I'm on placement with my university in house team just now. Hoping to get a summer job and possibly part time in my final year next year.

Doing technical drawings for a construction engineers - this just about predated the common use of AutoCAD (they had their first copy). Set Squares, Slide rules and Rotring akimbo.

Oh my god, I can imagine! Surely you got proof readers before you handed it over? If not at least he should have. Imo it's his fault for not checking carefully. You're a designer not a grammar teacher.

Proof readers when your self employed with a tight deadline and a naive idiot – no!

Lesson 1: There are people are people in this world who laugh in your face and call you a ferking idiot.
Lesson 2: There is a spell check, dictionary.
