Can you imagine if the web became an all-out competition between Microsoft and Google? Welcome back, 1990s! |

Just buying another search engine isn't going to realistically make them a threat to Google. You know Microsoft will just make Yahoo, Live and MSN the same awful piece of shit they currently have. The reason people use Google is because it works. I'm finding it impossible to get a site I made awhile ago listed on MSN/Live. I've submitted the URL, the sitemap.xml, tried everything. Google picked it up straight away, and searches for the service or the business name reveal it. Live have it in their search engine, but it just doesnt show up. Crown House Day Nursery = Not Listed CrownHouseDayNursery = 1st Result Fucking idiots. No wonder people don't use it. Yet google picks it up for: day nursery evesham |

I didnt mean necessarily in search - more the search marketing side of things, If they combined the advertisers and publishers of YPN and Adcenter they'd have a good challenger to adwords. |

Fair point, I wasn't really thinking about the paid listings/advertising, but that still relies on people being happy with the search engine, if it sucks on the natural listings, would you trust it to deliver your ads to the right audience? (not provoking a discussion, just a rhetorical brainfart) |

I don't really care if Microsoft takes over Yahoo. I can't picture either of them getting any worse out of this deal. I'll stick to Google for just about everything those two companies try to offer. |

I dont know why some of you are against Microsoft, jealousy perhaps? Microsoft is the top and the best company of all, top company in designing Windows OS and other outstanding software products. I like Microsoft a lot, but I think Yahoo still needs to stay Yahoo. Microsoft already has MSN/Live search, and if Yahoo was to start being like Live search then it would be less variety, there are already very few good search engines, Live, Google, and Yahoo. Of course I wouldnt be upset if Yahoo was purchased by Microsoft, but just think it'd be better if Yahoo stayed Yahoo. |

If it does come off - what brands will stay? MS has Live Search, and MSN (portal). That cant realistic expect three search brands to co-exist comfortably. My guess is that Yahoo search (being the one with the most market share) would stay. Live dies, as would MSN search. Perhaps keeping MSN as a portal integrated with Yahoo's search technology. |

even though windows is utter shite we do still owe many thanks to them for creating the computer revolution. Microsoft deserve what they have for changing the way we live, work, think. Although, times change. I hope they disappear. |
