Staging your portfolio work

Quote:
Did you design a killer poster? Show it hanging on wall or on a billboard. If it’s a magazine, take a picture of someone reading it. A web page? Put it in a browser and show it on a monitor. In other words, don’t just show the design work, give it a context.

Strange, I was thinking the same thing. Considering a revamp of the old portfolio (I know, again!) and thinking about doing just that. Something fancy.

Definitely good stuff right there... makes me happy I took screen shots of my sites in a browser window. Maybe that's why this portfolio has been getting better reviews than past portfolios...

Like everyone else... maybe it's time for a redesign!! [for the 13th time!]

Last year I put all my work in the context of how they are seen. It makes it easier to transpose new work and to size it accordingly. Also it gives me the opportunity to not make it so anally placed, kinda like they are on a nice white clean cofffe table - giving a relaxed impression.

Some of it does look like a mock up, but they all have consistency throughout.

This is an old version from last year on a plain white BG.

Been updated since. It's not new at all, I have seen lots of folks doing it for ages with diff BG scenarios for different jobs.

Yeah have redesigned it since last year, not so bland now.

I just got loads of blank books of different ratios shot so I can impose it myself. A lot easier to update and they keep consistency - which is the key IMO.

Nice, shame those Live Surface shots all look a bit too 'Americany' might be less convincing in a british designers folio.

Also, well out my price range!

Showing web work in a monitor? Fuck off, been done to death and looks shite.

Print work however looks better when photographed.
