MILWAUKEE — A Sheboygan man has been charged with selling his employer’s domain name for $200,000 and using corporate funds to travel with a stripper, according to a criminal complaint filed Monday.

Stephen M. Galstad, 41, is accused of selling the domain name sofa.com that was owned by Dinesen’s Leather Only to a London-based firm without permission, the Milwaukee County Circuit Court complaint said.

He faces up to five years in prison and $25,000 in fines on a felony charge of theft in a business setting. He is expected in court on Tuesday for an initial appearance.

The complaint, filed by Assistant District Attorney Bruce Landgraf, said Galstad worked out an agreement in October 2005 to sell the Web address. The money was wired to his personal account shortly thereafter.

Galstad worked for Dinesen’s for 16 years and managed the company’s stores.

Owner Lynn Dinesen learned that sofa.com was no longer directing people to the company’s site from a friend. The address now is operated by a London-based online furniture retailer.

Investigators found Galstad used a corporate credit card to travel internationally with a woman identified by his employer as a Las Vegas stripper.

According to the complaint, Galstad was confronted by Dinesen and her lawyer in May 2006 and confessed to the thefts, saying he was “got greedy.” However, the incident was not reported to police until April.

Landgraf said the reason for the delay between Dinesen’s discovery and report to police may be related to ongoing business troubles. The company has declared bankruptcy.
