Let's assume that our petition doesn't get the logo revoked. That would mean that this particular design will always be associated with the London Olympics because other rip-offs will be instantly recognizable as just that - rip-offs. So there probably won't be many of them and we won't need to see this in other contexts ever again. I can live with that. When the Munich games were held in 1972, the typography, logos, iconography and ideagraphs revolutionized graphic communication all over the world very much for the better. Thirty-five years later, we can find our way around foreign airports and stations with ease thanks to the graphic standards set in Munich. I doubt if London's revolutionary design will live past September 2012. My free fonts www.utfi.net

Yea but the John Titor conspiracy is crap, since his "Time machine" was made in 2034 but he came back all the way to 1975. So, meh. [ Programmers Voice - Blog about the internet, code and development ]

Good point. And as you go north from Euston towards the Scottish border, it looks like you're going further and further back in time. My free fonts www.utfi.net

Hate it. Here is another example of a pitch and design that isn't working. You cant just apply a nu-rave style treatment to a logo because its 'what the cool kids' are designing these days. This totally doesnt suit the target audience or the message the Olympics are about. Imagine if you applied pop design from the mid 90s to something like the food network , you'd have a abstract angled, techy comp with bitmap text. does that fit? www.ianflaig.com - Motion Graphics

OK, here goes an opinion from Mexico. When I first saw it I thought it was awful, then I kind of like it a bit when I saw its aplications to motions and posters, but then I realized that I could appreciate some features because I'm a designer, and yet is hard to get it. I'm sure is bold, ahead of time, etc. But what about the rest of the world who is not a designer, do they get it? even young people? I've always said that the best graphic design in the world come from two places: the superb, elegant and sophisticated Japanese design. And the contemporary, revolutionary and tasteful design from england. I admire the work of studios like Why not?, Stylorougue, Designers republic, etc. But in my personal opinion I would've liked to see Attik working on this project. I really expected more from the graphics of this olympics. |

Agree with you arktos (welcome by the way, nice first post). British design historicly has a reputation for leading the world, I think this could be one of these examples. We just can't see it yet. I see you're from Mexico. Now, Mexico 1968 Olympics' branding rocked, it's stuff of ledgend! But in it's day (I read anyway, I wasn't alive then) that it was badly recieved by it's public. That branding was ahead of it's time, and was the bollocks. It was original, it didn't use a mexican cliche, but went for bold typography, and bold graphics which even today beats seven lumps of shit out of recent Olympic brandings (Munich Olympics, Otl Aicher, 1972 on par in my opinion). I really believe that we've not seen all that this 2012 brand has to offer. 5 years is a long time, who knows where we're going to be seeing this mark, and what it's going to be doing. I'm quite exited about this brand, I don't know what the fuck to expect from it. Which is quite refreshing, to be honest! I just hope we look back in fondness to the 2012 branding as we do the 1968.
