Then he should know how important the King is to Thai people.
He might just as well have smeared excrement all over the temples in the grand palace.
Stupid twat.

Even that shouldn't be punished with ten years in jail.

Harsh I know. But having lived in Thailand for 10 years he would be well aware of the countries strict culture regarding the monarchy - baring in mind you can't turn anywhere without seeing portraits of the king.

Didn't the UK used to have a similar stance on "treason" - which was punishable by death?

You can still be put to death by hanging for forging stamps I recall.

The US still has that law. I bet the UK does, too. No one ever gets tried for it, but it's there.

Some info:

The UK has abolished the death sentence completely. Even for forging stamps. EU membership requires states to have abolished the death sentence.

I guess I didn't read properly. I was just assuming that the UK must still have treason laws on the books - just not punishable by death.

Despite Thailand being a wacky place, it still doesn't match up to the usual No.1 wacky country, where a teen can got 10 years in prison for getting a consensual bj from another teen.

And he didn't even have to insult any king...just minded his own business.

Yep. The unfortunate result of statutory rape laws.

don't know about forging stamps but it's still treason for sticking a stamp on an envelope upside-down.
