Design school

I'm in the US right now, but am considering the thought of going to an arts/design college in Europe, most likely England. Most of you live in Europe, any suggestions for me?

I've found this school, anyone heard of it, good/bad?
Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design

Yeah, it's fairly well known! That college is the dog's bollocks.*
You better have a good portfolio - professional standard - before they even consider accepting you.
That said, go right ahead and enquire about application.
Fortunately the net is a brill way to get info about colleges.
You might consider a good college in a non-English speaking country too. For example Poland has a traditionally excellent reputation for the graphic arts and a coupla three years in a college somewhere like Kraków (Cracova) would be an eye-opener. The fees are also lower in the East.
Good luck.

* the best

Central St Martins has an international reputation, but like the nose said, its only cos it's in london - expensive to live there, fuck all facilities, tutors dont spend any time with you, left to yourself. Look at London College of Communication if you fancy london, probably more your style from the look of your work. So many good palces in europe though. Obviously, if you fancy scandinavia, Hyper Island, ECAL in Switzerland (ecal) Rietveld Academie in Holland (GERRIT RIETVELD ACADEMIE) blaaah blaaah blaaaah

well i think it should be better than the one i am currently attending, where i am actually learning nothin much about drawing but more tech. so it could be a good change even if it is not a top school.

Kisd

I studied design at the Köln International School of Design (URL: kisd_dot_de) and I really liked it. As also most of the foreign students (there are lots).

It's a generalistic study: you'll have to get through all fields of design. Wether it's layout, production techniques, industrial design, design theory and so on. Gives you a broad understanding of design. It was a real cool time!

Best,
Marco

Not Europe, but...

Doesn't SF have a decent art school? You'll do quite well in any reputable university, I would think - UCLA or USC for instance.

I went to The University of the Arts for painting and drawing, so I can't comment on their design school (they offer graphic design and industrial design - the guy who wrote "Making and Breaking the Grid" went there), but overall it was a good experience. Philly's a great city, too, if you're into the east coast thing.

Other good east coast schools...

RISD (Rhode Island School of Design, pronounced "rizz-dee" usually)
MICA (Maryland Institute College of Art)
SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design - Georgia's climate is more akin to California, too)

In New York, there's always Pratt, Cooper Union, NYU.

Avoid "Art Institutes International". They suck - they're the McDonalds of art schools.

i've heard cal arts is a very good design college, if i did my degree again i'd do st martins as design agencies are all shallow as fuck and if they see st martins on your cv (resume) you'll always get an interview.

If you want to stay stateside and are considering the east coast, check out Drexel. Their design school is top notch, the grads always get jobs and Philadelphia is a great city.
