Later he appeared clean shaven...they, like, let you shave and stuff when you're in custody?

As much as I'm not a fan of the way the US has handled any of this, I don't begrudge them the opportunity to make it as clear as possible to the Iraqi people that Saddam is no longer on the loose.
If they're gonna (continue to) flout international accords on the handling of prisoners, then I'm willing to concede that, this time at least, it's been done with the best of intentions - namely reassuring the Iraqi people.

Indeed, but do you really expect anything else from the US?

You (as well as most others here) don't strike me as the type of person who WOULD side with US (/ the U.S.) even if we had handled it the way YOU think is right. But I don't even want to go there, because I'm largely outnumbered here.

Personally, I'd like to see what happens if they let him go in the streets of Baghdad amongst the people celebrating his capture. I think they'd quickly try to find out if his severed head would fit up his arse.

Do you not think thats the easy way out (for him) thought? Maybe living out the rest of his sorry existence caged in a damp cell is more fitting. Reduced to a life of degradation and squalour like so many of the people he ruled over.

Yes and No, there really is no fitting end in store for him. And, sadly, he'll get much better treatment than being "caged in a damp cell...reduced to a life of degradation and squalour"

PS - Smallbeer needs to post in here so we get a look at his new this-thread-matching avatar.

Salam Paxs view - http://dear_raed.blogspot.com/

Quote:
Why do all the interesting things happen when I am not in baghdad?
at first I couldn't believe it when I heard it, I got too excited when they reported that the vice president Izat Ibrahim was arrested and then it turned out to be nothing, so my reaction was "yeah right". but the images on TV left no chance to doubt. He looked like a tramp getting a physical and for some reason you expected him to bite that soldier's finger a la Hanibal Lecter. But he just sat there. There was another moment when the GC members were describing their meeting with Saddam and told the journalists about the deriding remarks he made when they asked him about the Sadir's assasination and the mass graves, he sounded like he has totally lost it.
I want a fully functioning Saddam who will sit on a chair in front of a TV camera for 10 hours everyday and tells us what exactly happened the last 30 years. I do not care about the fair trial thing Amnesty Int. is worried about and I don'r really care much about the fact that the Iraqi judges might not be fullt qualified, we all know he should rot in hell. but what I do care about is that he gets a public trial because I want to hear all the untold stories
