annoying pop ups 101
Tired of annoying pop up ads and don’t they seem like they are just getting more aggressive? There are many causes that will have a person getting pop up's. I have listed some information here for people to gain a basic understanding of how they work and what you can do to prevent them. Here are three methods of pop up ads delivery: 1. The website launches them (example: you have free web hosting) 2. There are programs called "spyware & adware" that are tiny programs that install on your computer. These tiny programs are controlled by a central server that sends everyone who has this program an ad via pop up. They even track websites that you visit, so let's say you are known to visit real estate sites. The programs see this and direct ads in the real estate industry. They are called spyware because they self install by visiting a website or opening an email without notice and slip through virus protectors at times. 3. Some ad companies were taking advantage of Microsofts Windows Messenger Service. Here windows XP and 2000 machines have this service automatically on PC's. They basically expose your IP(computer address online). With this companies would scan IP addresses and find computers with this turned on then record their address. Then they can broadcast/install spyware to your PC and give you pop up's even if you are not surfing the internet! (your computer obviously has a DSL/cable for this to happen). These are the three main methods in pop up delivery. I would recommend anyone who uses the internet frequently to use google's toolbar. It's a great pop up blocker and it's free. Plus you can access their search from your browser. I love it! If you or anyone else have noticed these behaviors on your PC, like searchbars installing themselves, or pop up's etc..., invest in spyware removers. You'll be surprised the amount of spyware programs you can find. Thats it. Hope this helps. |
