I'm not being funny but I'd use the time to upgrade your skills. Your portfolio site could do with an overhaul, especially the code. You're linking to a stylesheet that isn't there and using font tags all over the place. The site also breaks in NS7 / mozilla, not massively but breaks all the same. Theres tough competition out there now and if an agency has 100 portfolio sites to look through I fear yours will be stand a high chance of being discarded at an early stage. Certainly if we are recruiting the 2nd thing we look at, after the overall aesthetic, is a "view source" to see if the person really knows their trade. We'd look at that before even looking through the portfolio. Sorry if that sounds harsh, its not really meant to, just helping you to get a job! |

just thought i'd point you out to this book which worked wonder's for me when i was on the dole. after i read it, i changed my approach to job hunting and got a reply for 90% of jobs i applied to, including 3 interviews. after reading the advice the book had to offer i was even offered my current position in the first interview http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0091884276/qid%3D1049896063/026-4539877-7576409 otherwise, i would try and upgrade your portfolio site, although i know the hardest thing is actually motivating yourself! best of luck tho everything was great til i got here

[quote:b1eba13149="oli"]Looks interesting, I might get a copy - but why shouldnt you send a CV [/quote:b1eba13149] what the bloke was saying was that you write them something called a "boomerang letter" that is tailored to the job description and is written in a way that makes them wanna reply. i'm not the best person in the world at describing what he says but another point he makes is that a cv has more effect if you give it to them after an interview rather than before, and just let the letter do the talking. i've probably made his book sound crap now but honestly it is a good book: bloody easy to read and really insightful btw, Ostrich, if you are on the dole then you can sign onto LearnDirect courses for free (if you didn't already know that is). i did that and learned XML and stuff while the job centre paid me for it, which is nice everything was great til i got here
