Wayne Rooney

Any England fans here?

We saw conclusively that Wayne Rooney can play on the world stage, but I also think the diamond midfield always seems to suit England well even though its rarely used these days. There are no out-and-out wingers so it makes sense to use wingbacks and Paul Scholes would to be brought into the attack more.

Whaddya think?

Agreed it was excellent - It cheered me up no end - not just the result but the way we played.
Every player was trying hard and Rooney simply outshone every other player on the field. Thank god we dont have to play Heskey any more.
I was even impressed by 'Calamity' James in goal - I thought he did a good job and that save he made was stunning.

Well done to sven for getting in right

I agree, but there were still some dodgy moments that thankfully weren't capitalised on by Turkey. I think David James' real vocation in life may have been as a circus juggler.

i agree rooney was excellent and is true england material, unlike heskey who i don't think is good enough. i also thought wayne bridge was amazing in the 2nd half and worked wonders as a wing back. i would keep the team exactly as it was that night, although i'm still a bit skeptical of nicky butt, for the main reason that he doesn't play reguarly enough for man u.

I am praying that Rooney doesn't play that well when we play them on Sunday at Goodison Park.

They don't really pose a threat considering we are 11 points clear of them but with Man U playing Liverpool we have a good chance of joining them at second spot.....

Your joking, Butt is a quality player as reliable as they come.

tbh not an England fan - probs because i am from Scotland :P and tbh ive got much respect for the lad Wayne Rooney competing at world cup stage at his age but lets not pressure the boy to much! - also the comment on Nicky Butt - when your playing with man utd wither or not in the first team you gotta be good for that set up - that alone we should probably say Nicky Butt has some quality! - if ya look at the whole man utd team there isnt really a bad player in the team so... -

Would be good if they didn't all give me error 404s. It is only the Wayne Rooney one that works! I'd fix it if I were you before the big bosses at Sky find out!

Rooney - quality. He's lived up to the hype so far, I'm impressed the media hype/attention hasn't done him any damage (yet?).

Got to say Vassel was fantastic too, don't really know what Beckham was up to for most of the game, but he came through when it matters - as usual.

Felt good to be an England fan - I'm holding that though

[quote:adcca7f821]I'm impressed the media hype/attention hasn't done him any damage (yet?). [/quote:adcca7f821] - to me he seems like a bit of a Paul Scholes / Nicky Butt type - they dont seem to like the media glare and are content to just play their footie without the celebrity crap that Beckham loves.
No way does he seem like a 17 yr old tho, hes massive! Compare him to skinny gerard or Butt. Was good to see he wasnt taking any shit from the turkish players.

I agree it was a good day to be an england fan, it will go in my memory next to beating Germany 5-1 and the argentines in the world cup.

aye lets not get the lad too over confident dont really need him to be a "pre-madona" *spelling* at his age - Moyes will make him into a great player one to watch!

Did you see the slow-motion 'Rooney highlights' the BBC showed at half-time? It was great to see the English schoolboy/brickhouse shoulder-charging a Turkish player to ground. It shows the completeness of the player already, at such a young age. He can tussle with the best of them, but then has the deft skills to try backheels and juggling the ball in the air in an international match.

I don't care what people say about treating him with kid-gloves and high expectations - that's for managers and clubs, I'm a fan and I say Rooney is the next Gazza but even better! (ie: he'll avoid Italy, wife-beating and endless pissups with Chris Evans and fat geordie friends)

Aren't his brothers boxers??
Anyways, there seems to be a lot of good young british players coming through from all the nations. Good to see after all the foreign imports coming into the game. About time we had home talent coming through...

[quote:86b7311fa3]Aren't his brothers boxers?? [/quote:86b7311fa3] I believe so, I think his dad may have been as well.
Talking of boxing, I went to see Ricki Hatton fight the other week and he was awesome , I was sitting pretty high up so I didnt see his cut eye but I saw him dominate the yankee guy.
Definately going to see him against Junior Witter.
