Does anyone do any work in this field?

Uni have decided to include this in my degree structure this year but haven't been very forthcoming with info yet. It all seems a very last minute affair!

I know WAP uses (or used) WML which is a form of XML. Do other handhelds use the same?

I'm looking for any sites, blogs, journals that can get me upto speed. Not just the technology behind it but any studies into future uses, user expectations, anything really.

All help appreciated

Not sure what I meant by user expectations

What I think I mean is user centric design with the mobile interface in mind rather than a monitor and mouse.

do you mean information / structure presentation (format) or operating software (symbian, java , m$, C++ etc)

Just went to bed and had a thought (often happens!). Mobile technology might have been the wrong words. It's mobile CONTENT I'll be dealing with not the actual mobile technology.

I confuse myself when I don't know what I'm talking about!

So your after ideas/reasearch about the kind of content offered on current WAP sites or info on what people want offered. Or all of the above?

There's an interesting article on the macromedia site about flash and PDA's if your interested, can't remember the URL and never bookmarked the damn thing, I'll see if I can find it.

Looked at WML briefly when I was trying to get my head round XML and always thought I should give it a try - never did get round to it yet...

I've found some quite interesting stuff on both the technology used and studies into human interaction with mobile devices.

It's a minefield out there though, the technology is moving so fast it's hard to tell whether what you're reading has become yesterdays news already.

I'll post links when I get home for anyone interested.

I did my dissertation on WAP, titled "The Mobile Internet: An Evaluation of WAP as a Platform for Mobile Services"

I'll see if I can dig it out for ya.
