Posting or the lack of

I feel that over the weekend a certain theme was struck.

posts containing " i am pist" managed to pool over 100 results"

posts today containing series topics of debate - 3 results.

Wheres the sense I ask.

Another issue arose as well that I feel needs addressing (not that it bothers me personally but).

Instead of people moaning about lack of suitable posts why not post some topics that people feel are relevant to the forum

(IMHO)

Hey dude, I'm a lover, not a fighter*.
(* that's not an offer, btw)

---

I guess the lack of substantial design topics here is a reflection of the average newbie-ness of the membership here at DT.
Not a moan (honest), just an observation.
There are a few veterans and 'estabished designers' here, but there also seems to be a proportionally high number of relative newcomers to design here.

As I see it, part of the reason that there aren't more 'design-related' topics is because of the higher than usual number of those still finding their feet, who have yet to stumble on the various p.i.t.a, but relevant, issues that lay beneath the crust.

Of course, I could be completely wrong.
It could just be that the membership here is already so well informed and up to speed on the many design issues that further discussion is pointless.

That ebing said, if anyone wants to go head to head with me and discuss the ethics of anti-descrimination legislation that 'enforces' the rights of access to certain non-publically-owned websites to disabled groups, then I'm up for that.
(fwiw, I'm against it)

Alternatively, I'm always up for having a stab at resolving someone's CSS/markup woes.

Are there no members here currently struggling through the transition from tables-based layouts to css-layouts?

Anyone?

tables to css. tables can be valid in xhtml so why stop using them for complicated site layouts even if its not to disp[lay tabular data - or are we not allowed to do that?

I tried to convince the boss to do one of the site's we're working on entirely in CSS (this would be quite a learning curve for myself as I've only used CSS with tables so far).
But he ended up convincing me there simply wasn't the need, and that a combination of Tables (for the real basic/foundation of the layout), and CSS (fonts, positioning, colours etc.) and Java menu would work fine. He's well aware of CSS and I struggled to justify and entirely CSS site.

The general area is #1 man!!! I feel it is where we come to get our release and post about everything and anything...that is why it is GENERAL. If it were GENERAL DESIGN I think you'd have a gripe, but alas it is in the General Forums area and even further in the General Discussion area...

This forum is called Designers Talk...NOT Designers Talk Solely About Design...

I'm inclined to agree with you there. And like you say it is just an observation. But here are some knowledgable folk here - and I think as this place grows it will become a bit more rounded and informative... hopefully.

I wouldnt say that people here are 'newbies' , on every forum there are people with a range of abilities and I think its good to strike a balance.
Know one likes a forum full of elite-designers waffling on, or a forum of newbies being clueless. As I say, balance.

It wasn't meant as a criticism, Oli.

As you say, this place has a certain balance.
I just suggested that the particular balance at TP might account for the amount of meaty, 'on-topic' discussions that make it onto the boards.

Even though there is a mixture of levels here, there still seems to be surprisingly little interest in discussing the subject that brought us here - design.

As I said, it's not a criticism, just an observation.
