So whos cacking themselves about Bird Flu yet?

I certainly am.

Only a matter of time until it could kill 53,000 UK residents they say.

This is just media sensationalism. They just want something to give us a fright, pathetic. The war is not exciting anymore so they invent a pandemic.

The risk of a outbreak of a nasty flu type virus like 1918/19 is always with us, always has been, always will be. It is not new, it is not more likely now because of the bird flu. Some other source of a virus could just as easily mutate and create a disaster at any time. Might be tomorrow, might be 50 years, might be 500.

No I am not saying is govt it is the media, what will fill the front page, what will get attention.

The bird flu killed 60 people in the Far East, how many people live there. A billion? Probably more. These people keep chickens in their houses. Chicken droppings, pluckings everywhere and they reckon it killed 60 people. surprised it does not kill more every year. It probably does but it only because of the CDC plague monitoring that this stuff comes to light now.

There have always been academics out there writing their books about plague, the end of life as we know it and now they all get to have their 5 minutes on Sky.

Will be long forgotten by Xmas when Saddams trial starts and then we can start the New Year with a good hanging.

I live about 150 miles from the villages where it appeared. And I'm not. Just had a nice chicken sandwich yesterday from a street vendor.
You wanna stay off the flu? Just cook a little bit more the food and don't kiss any chick's beak and you should be fine

Congrats, gray. Like datahound said if you don't have a poultry farm in your flat/house, I think you should be fine.

I'm with datahound on this, I think it's been hyped out of proportion - theres always something treatening to wipe out the human race like a big fuck off asteroid or an overdue supervolcano or the gulf stream switching off for a bit, bird flu? don't make me laugh - If I was a pigeon I would definately be cacking myself though

Some people seem to be missing the point. The whole strength of the flu virus, the reason it's around every year, is its ability to mutate. Right now it's not that dangerous but if this bird version mutates into one that can be passed between humans then it's not pigeons you should be worried about snogging.

The threat of a highly virulent form of flu has been around for generations, it's just another one of those things waiting to happen
