So as phase III of the ever extending project, I have my complete and working news feed downloading news from a remote RSS file and scrolling it across the screen dynamically. Now I want to be able to add some content into the feed, so I was thinking create another XML feed and merge them like so:

REUTERS
MYFEED
REUTERS
MYFEED

can this be done? should it be done remotely using php or locally using flash?

in flash for sure. Just add another XML object that reads the Reuters feed:
http://www.microsite.reuters.com/rss/worldNews
The only issue is having Flash parse the RSS feed properly, which you already have... if you have that handy, could I grab it off you???... please
