Flash Header - Should I add a preloader?

I have built a flash header that is 100KB.

Should I add preloader?

On most computers the header shows up almost immediately. Others, it loads for a about 2-3 seconds with a blank space. I'm wondering, should I include a preloader for a movie of such a small size?

We are in 2008/2009 now, internet speeds are fast.

Just because a lot of people have bband it doesn't necessarily mean that speeds are fast.

Adding something like a preloader shows that you're concentrating on the smaller features and it's those small things that make all the difference.

Maybe add one, but no need to do anything extravagant. Simple line or count will do. Line's probably best as it'll interfere with your final end point less for those on larger pipes.

Would it be possible to create a 2-3kb ani-gif and apply it to the background property of the container (<object>)? - might be one easy option for smaller movies. I Do this a lot for galleries and always wondered if it'd work for small flash jobs too. Or is there a transparency issue..?

If you did nested divs it could potentially work...never tried it like that, but wmode=transparent can do funny things at times and it'd be unnecessary markup. Should only take about 3 minutes to set up a simple preloader, and I'd advise it...because even if your user is on broadband, your server may be having a slight hickup and it'll look better overall to have at least something there.

Should work if your wmode's set right, that might be a plan, but as 7twelve says the flash preloader may be the better way to go in case of server blips etc.

At 100 kb yes you need a preloader.
If the swf is more than 30kb you should use a preloader.

Wireless can be chopy and some people still use dial - up

Digging files up from 2008 to get your post count up will get you banned.
