I once tested an alpha of a flash based forum designed by a member of kirupaForum - Powered by vBulletin (I can't remember who) and it was a pretty dull experience. It felt much like a regular PHP forum but slower. There's only so many things you can do to a forum before it becomes user-unfriendly. Flash can't really add much without taking away from the accessibility side. PHP is the perfect language for it really. |

Flash for the sake of flash is so fucking annoying. (I have to deal with it on a regular basis and it annoys the fuck out of me - working on reducing it though). Movies, interactive/educational/entertaining animations, embedding sound, advertising - just a few of the good uses for Flash. Distracting pointlessly flashy navigation and annoying transition effects are just a few of the reasons that Flash is annoying. If you are participating in a forum you are there to read and write, not to look at the buttons on a site. If you click a link you want to get to the resulting page as soon as possible without looking at completely pointless transitions unnecessarily slowing your access. |
