new project
Hey ya'll. Working on a new project for The Compassionate Friends and would like some feedback. tcfwhiteplains.com/preview I will be working on audio for the next week so don't pay any attention to that. I also want to not only center the flash horizontally in the browser but vertically as well. My friend from work tried to explain it to me and I had no idea what he was talking about. Something with javascript? I don't know. Do you? Anyways, it's a pretty laid back project and I have no real deadline so I want to take my time and make it look good for my portfolio. Thanks for looking (if you do). |

quick first impressions ok? meant constructively (brace yersel') * you resize my window - no no no no no * logo is a bit rough looking * wtf is that hanging from the tree? whatever it is it's breeding and dying randomly if i crazy click it * the text is too hard to read over the bg image * the audio doesn't loop properly - there's a glitch * that crow/kookaburra/flying lizard with the attitude is way too strong a component of the loop; as is the sound of god moving his furniture (or is that the 40 stone humming bird?) * i get no feedback when clicking the links - you need some kind of loading indication HOWEVER why you would need one is beyond me since it's only a couple of lines of text meh.

yep the window re-sizing thing has got to go. something is off with the aliasing of the fonts as well. looks rough. if theres audio like proc355 said, i didnt hear it as i usually have music playing anyway :P i personally think the navigation takes way too long. the transition for the 'our children' link and 'back to main menu' feels like ages. |

great, thanks for the feedback, guys. I will take out the resizing code. Do you only prefer that if it's a fullscreen flash site? (just wondering). The audio is something i'm working on so I'll update yo on that when It's near completion. proc355: "god moving his furniture" do you mean when the hummingbird comes in frame the sound it makes? because that's a hummingbird sfx. I'll let you know when I fix some of the problems. Thanks again. |

i know its the hummingbird; sounds like a land train - waaaayyyy too strong; no idea what kind of set up you have but there is far too much bass, it is a micro-burdie after all are you pulling the audio together in flash or mixing it externally? don't mess with browser size. don't. especially on my laptop, where you managed to resize it to my screen size... GRRR! meh.

It's in the master flash file. I still need to learn a few things with audio in flash. I have an idea in mind for the transition into the sky but need to learn how to do it first! Quote:
hahah, yikes, okay i will take it out asap. Again, do people only tolerate that if it's a fullscreen site? or do you just hate it all together? Also, does anybody know some simple code to center the flash vertically in the browser? |

its just pretty invasive - especially with tabbed browsing; it's pretty common to be loading multiple tabs in the background (especially long loads like flash) - if i'm reading something and uber-goober-im-a-smart-arse resizes my window i have a fit. if you feel full screen would be better then offer the option, don't ever resort to coercion. best way to centre is using css, have a lookee @ How to: vertical centering with CSS // journal // hicksdesign meh.
