calling flash gurus
I have to create an "interactive experience" in flash. I don't do flash. So I have an idea but now I need to know whether it's doable in flash and whether I can learn the necessary skills in time. We had to pick from 4 themes - time, parent-child, nature or the body. I've chosen parent-child and the idea goes a little something like this (only an idea in my head so far, first time writing it down so bear with me)... Dependent Origination is a budhist concept (yep more hippy shit It's basically cause and effect - everything happens or even exists because of something that has happened previously. So... I want my experience to try and visually explain this. Like I say these are just the basics so far but I would like it so that one users experience changes the next users - their actions alter the experince for the next user be that in a good or bad way. Is that possible? Also, it would be good for the previous user to get feedback on how their actions affected the next user. Can this be done? That's fuckin' ingenious, if I understand it correctly. It's a Swiss fuckin' watch.

actually, its a good idea. didn't mook do something along these lines. i think his thing was having visitors to his site being visually represented by bugs or summat which replicated the user's movements through the site. am i way off track? |

Concept wise this sounds great and would have some real applications for community sites etc. Have a look at: http://www.randommedia.co.uk/ (click on Dream Domain) and http://www.digitfeed.com/ (by www.digitlondon.com) I'm stuck on a shitty modem connection and don't have time to check them out properly but if I remember correctly they make use of a lot of features that you're hoping to achieve. Whichever way you look at it though I'm guessing there will be a steep learning curve to this (flash/db integration etc.) Good luck and keep us updated. Don't get sand on your ice cream...

Yeah, I also think you'd have to do some kind of hookup to a flashcom server so that each user's movie could talk to the server and communicate that back to the other.... Basically it's a fairly extensive project that you probably don't have the timeline to get the skills for :p Maybe instead you could do a slick animation of the concept and justify why you couldn't accomplish it by doing all the research on it so you know how much work it would take... I don't know what your professor is like though, so maybe this is out of the question even though it's a great friggin' idea.... audentes fortuna iuvat
