I am trying to edit a flash file for a template I purchased and I can't figure out how to edit the file using Flash 8. I just need to edit the text but when I edit the text in the movie clip it doesn't update the text on the screen it stays the same.

Try movie explorer. Maybe text is given as actionscript variable?

You're sure your editing the .fla file? Also, make sure you're saving the file before you view it. It shouldn't be too hard to fix.

Where are you previewing it - I know that it seems like a dumb question but I just want to be sure that you aren't looking at an uploaded version and assuming that the text will automatically update.

Other than that - I can't see why it wouldn't work. Check to see if the text is maybe being controlled by an external text source, like photon stated. Anyways - I wish you the best of luck.

Sounds like you might be trying to edit a dynamic text field, by just typing into the text field, and then when you look at it published your seeing the dynamically loaded text.

Not very helpful, but it just goes to show the benefit of creating (and thereby understanding) your own Flash files.
