button blocking

Once again i'm stuck. I'm doin a flash movie which has another movie embedded within it. that movie plays above a set of buttons on the first movie, the idea being that it blocks out the buttons. problem is, even though the buttons are not visible, they can still be rolled over and clicked. is there any way to solve this? any help is, as per usual, much appreciated

thanks mate. don't suppose you know how to stop the little hand icon from appearing when you roll over a button in Flash 4?

// on event:
_mc.onRelease = _mc.useHandCursor = false;
