Bill: yes, I'm kind of testing - also - I'm somewhere between 1 and 2 - but that'd just give people too much choice... so I left that option out... avatar - yes! (hee hee - too late!) would you like a tutorial? ...

I just like to know what I'm waiting for. That's all I ask. Stick a filesize in the text. Loading... and a swirly graphic could mean '650kb - go and make a cup of tea' or could be '80kb - one second please'. (new subsist, for example) |

Yes I would. It's just good manners. It's very simple - preloaders tell the user what their browser is doing, rather than simply having a flash file hijack it. You should tell them how big the file is and (if they choose to wait) show them an indication of the progress - loading bar, %, plain text etc. But for 33kb (a few seconds wait) - I'd just go with Loading... (33kb) |

i agree with the stickfella. although its really an audience issue. will your intended audience want to see your logo bouncing across the screen? always have: - skip link (which loads before the animation does) - indication of file size - automatic detection (don't make me search around your page for the enter link) a recent client of mine wanted one. - why, i asked. -b'cos none of our competitors do, it'll make us look more professional. it was for a recruitment site. my protestations were put aside, flash intro included. bugger them. |

it's not for an intro - but display of images in my portfolio. The entire site is html... so it would be only for the images: thumbnails and full previews. Kind of an obuse of Flash! Always a pleasure.... ...
