Targetting flash from html link?

OK, this may be a stupid question but im struggling to find a correct answer.

I have a flash movie in a page...on this page are some links that have to pop up little windows with another flash movie in them.

is there a way in the link, or in the popped up window that i can tell the original flash movie to stop playing? (ie call a fucntion or action or something to stop the original flash movie)

hope someone can shed some light or point me in the right direction

cheers

d

If the links are buttons, why not put the stop action in the buttons?

sorry maybe my post wasnt clear.

the links are html links (calling javascript for the popup), not part of the flash movie that i need to stop.

Ah I see. Could you not make the links in Flash, still using javaScript within Flash to call the pop-ups then also add the stop action?

no, the flash is only decorative as the navigation needs to be html for SEO and accessability reasons.

Anyone know if this is possible?
