Developer/Rental site help...
Can anyone point me in the right direction for the following: I am looking to create a site for a developer/rental business. I have only ever created basic sites with flash and this will be my biggest job yet. I need a simple site that allows the developer to easily update new property photographs and text information on their own on a daily basis. the site will basically be information on new builds etc with some textual information and some pics. I'm not sure how to go about this with flash and would appreciate any advice/examples/tutorials to work with and have a look at. Thanks in advance for all who offer help... |

Why do you need to do it in flash? This sounds like an information site rather than a site promoting a brand. And particularly when you describe being able to add new property, text, photographs etc. So why flash? This would be far, far better build using XHTML, CSS with a nice clean design. |

Hi thanks for your advice, basically the client got in touch with me through a family member I had done some flash work for before. The client has a website at the moment but he has seen a few flash sites and really likes the final look of them. So he has asked me in particular due to wanting a 'flash' site. But also I am a graphic artist for print mainly and have never designed a full site in dreamweaver before, I've only really taken the sites to the slicing stage and passed it on. I have done a fair bit of flash work, therefore, I wasn't really wanting to start learning a new program. However, i take your advice and now is probably the best time to start learning more on dreamweaver, although I'll probably lose the client if I turn round and tell him his site should stay html! can anyone point me in the right direction of a tut. for this type of thing? Or am I best to just study the whole CSS thing inside out? Which I will do anyway, but I'm just thinking of saving time with this particular job. Thanks again... |

Sorry don't want to look lazy! I've just came across the CSS links in another forum, i'll have ahunt through some of them. However, if anyone can think of something in particular in connection with property sites then I would greatly appreciate these links also. Thanks again... |

Best option is to create a system that integrates flash with PHP and an SQL database. The user would then login to a secure area where they edit/add text/images which in turn updates the database. In flash, you would call a PHP file. The PHP would grab data from the database depending on how you called it from flash and output the data. Flash would then grab the outputted data and then in Flash you do some more coding to get it to display the images and text. |
