Hello fellow readers, Thank you for taking your time to go ahead and read this thread. Let me begin by first telling you about what I am asking for, and why. I am the current head of Genesis Digital Corporation, a consumer electronics and plasma television wholesale/distributor. We have been in the import business for 3 years, and am currently looking for something new. Yes, it's true I'm 19 and I am the head of my own corporation. However I doubt that is of interest to you at the moment. As you know, basically distributing electronics at wholesale prices to others isn't the best thing to be making bank on. So we have decided to go ahead and go public. This thread is an attempt to go ahead and gather talented individuals who are willing to spend most of their time in developing a new storefront website. Take notice though, about how I'm asking for designers who are more down to earth. I will not list the basic requirements, other than the fact that you must have advanced HTML knowledge, and mostly all of the others. I previously took some web design classes, but I gave up on those when I started the company, so any knowledge of the various types and codes are virtually nonexistant. The website I hope to come out with is almost like your basic shopping cart website, such as circuitcity.com or so forth. HOWEVER, after many board meetings, we have come to a plan in which we are able to implement totally new ideas into this storefront, which have so far, from our research, never been used on other major retail sites. Now your probably thinking, "Why would he come to a web developer forum like this one?" There are a few reasons for this. One is that I am looking for a personal relationship, to create a better atmosphere and a better understanding of the individual, or the team. As you know, most web design firms, who offer to design your storefront for you, always try to implement the same damn tactics that they used for other websites, and they just can't get out of the box. Even if they could, most are usually controlled by some other who will or will not let them do something for the customer if it doesn't click in their minds. Another is price, and I hate the markup of the website design firms just because their asking us to pay for their rent and the food that they eat. I am willing to pay hundreds, I am willing to pay thousands, depending on the amount of effort and time and the work that you put in, not the fixed price, or the hourly payrate and etc. I want a person who has experienced life, who cruises the internet and responds to forums such as these. I hope you understand why I have come to a forum to hire a designer. However, whatever way permits, it doesn't matter what you are. Programmers, Designers, Artists, all are welcome to apply, whether or not your an all-in-one doesn't matter to me, which also means, that in the end, you should be prepared to work by yourself, or with a team. Worried about your pay? Well don't be, aside from just the regular cash payout, you will also be able to grab various consumer electronics monthly for staying on the team and helping out on the updating, so aside from whatever pay you may receive, you will also be receiving various gadgets as pay. I also ask one more requirement of any takers, you are NOT allowed to use TEMPLATES. Call it stubborness, but my team has agreed that to become the biggest, we must create everything from scratch, step by step, without using any ideas that we may receive from stealing code from other websites. By doing this, we may come upon new ideas that are still hidden within the potential of you fellow takers. Another point I want to emphasize on, is that as an employer hiring an employee, is that the relationship we should have is that of a friend asking a friend. Only by doing this, we are able to speak freely, like human beings, and be ourselves. This is vital to the work required, as tension will slow down work pace, and ideas will not pop up as they are supposed to. Here is a general layout of what is required for any applicants. (Pretty Short) 1. Advanced knowledge of HTML and any other coding 2. Ability to cope with anything that is asked. 3. Mindset of a human being, not a robot who is controlled by a remote. 4. A good understanding of how other websites, such as circuitcity.com work. 5. Willingness to, if needed, cooperate with others if there is a team. 6. Time. Time is vital. You must be able to be fully devoted to this job, however, I will also ask of you that you have an active social life, so that stress and tension may be relieved. (Optional) 1. Are you willing to go out and help this website succeed? Can you promote in any way? Do you think you are able to get marketing tactics on the run? This is a large project, and I guarantee that I will succeed. If I wasn't, and I would be stuck at the bottom crap list of online retailers for the duration of my life, then I wouldn't be trying this. Investors money are in my hands, and I will not be ruined. I will throw my blood and sweat onto this website, to make it bigger than circuitcity, amazon.com and everything other thing out there. Be willing to take the time and do what your asked. Be willing to work your ass off, and be willing to cooperate with whatever comes along. Are you ready? Take note now of where to send your resume to, and what should be included. 1. Your name, phone number (daytime, and evening), age (I don't care if your 3 years old), town/city of your residence, State. 2. Portfolio of your work. Yes. This should be a requirement. There is no way of me telling of how good you are for your words if there is no proof. You are still allowed to apply if you don't have one, but your chances will be slimmer. 3. What you are looking for in pay range for the work that you can do. Don't want to sound too rash? Fine, just state what you believe you think you should atleast be paid. This is an important part. It will show me what you are really doing this job for, and whether or not you are a greedy bastard. 4. A little bit about yourself. What got you started in website design, your projects, your most difficult moment in designing. Whatever you feel like you need to write go ahead. 5. Tell me why you think you are the right person for this job. What you can do for the company, and what you can contribute. 6. Also please send me your computer specs. Although I am not experienced in the website design, I am still very wary of how computers work. This could show me what kind of work you are able to do, because I don't want your computer freezing up in the middle of programming. 7. What are your fortes? HTML? Editing? Personal Art? Java? Photoshop? Tell me what your are good at NOW. Do not include things that you only have basic training in. Basic training is useless to me, I cannot have you learning something from the beginning while we are in the middle of a project. 8. How much time can you devote in hours per day, per week, per month? Do you go to school? Have another job? Please send all information to GenesisDigital@adelphia.net Any PM's, or emails regarding this job WILL NOT be read if they are sent to the address listed in my profile. Simply said do not PM me. However, I may or may not reply to posts on this thread. Once again, I would like to emphasize on the fact that you should only apply for this job if you are willing to work as a friend at mind, not an employee. Unfriendly and tense attitudes are not welcome. For those of you that are still reading, I will now tell you some more about myself if you are still unsure if you want to take the time to apply. I am 19 years old, and I have been doing business since I was about 15. My first investment was from relatives, in which I built and repaid by selling video games and laptops. Recently the plan was put together to receive a larger investment in which would be used to expand my company into the public domains, rather than just the wholesale community. I may be the head of a company mind you, however, I am just like any of you. I lead a very active social life, and yes, like a pompous, I prefer to not hang out with the ugly loser crowd who believes that card games and dungeons and dragons is the way of life. Like most, I spend much of my time on the internet while I have free time, going to forums, playing games, everythings there, I try to be a well rounded individual. I am simply a person who was offered his share of business capitol in the world, and actually used it to do something. It sounds like a pretty odd and disorganised way of running a project if you ask me. Not that you did. Im not to sure about Quote:
everybody has to pay rent and eat But seriously, if this is going to be a big project taking up a lot of your comapany's resources, it would probably be a good idea to hire a consultant experienced with e-commerce to come up with a project plan, and help with project management. The way you've described what you want so far, sounds like a potential nightmare of spiralling confusion to me. And I've been there. good luck with it though. |

Yes, however I prefer to work with people just like me, from friend to friend if you know what I mean. If you have ever worked with anybody from any kind of firm, you should notice the attitude of them, usually being a bait and eat technique, so that the only thing in their mind is closing the deal. |

Sounds like you've been burnt by some heavy handed firm or other, but they aren't all like that, most of the ones I've dealt with (mostly smaller 2-5 people outfits) are extremely helpful and proffesional. Whatever floats your boat though, do post the site up when it's done. |
