Freelance Work (Getting it)

Hi, I've been freelancing (graphic design for print mainly, some v'basic web stuff) for the last 2 to 3 years and find the going quite hard, 'specially in this neck of the woods. Just wondered if:
1) You guys have any recommendations of how to go about getting it.
2) Has anybody heard of Freelance Work Exchange.com? If so are they any good? It's just that I feel a little nervous that they ask for money to join (my cynical mind).
3) Anyone got any good sites in the UK for freelancers? Tried Freelancers.net.

Any pointers would be gratefully received.

freelancers sites are naff, get yourself to any kind of local design events, spread your portfolio around the design co.s etc - best way.

try bd4d cardiff for a start

I can probably help with freelance work. I run a freelance network and you can check out the open projects on it.

More projects are coming in the next few days as I just opened the site a week ago, though there is already some work to be taken.

Just thought I would mention it.

How good do you want me to be?

I am very basic with web work, as you can see from my site, but I count myself fairly good on design and interpreting briefs from clients for print work.

Do you have anything in mind, or are you just curious?
