i'm 16 year old, getting 17 this year. I live in the netherlands and I would like to know:

-If i would like to be a freelancer, how does that all work? Allso with money handling etc! I've done some jobs on the net, but never thought about it!

Im not sure how you stand legally in the netherlands , your best off speaking to a bank manager or small business advisor.

I agree...

Over here I found Business Link and the Inland Revenue to be invaluble, as well as my bank when I was setting up.

Can't stress how much talking to friends who were also self employed helped as well, wether they were involved in design or not. Book keeping and tax is book keeping and tax no matter what you're doing

Good luck with it. Are you thinking of continuing education or working for somebody else first?

hey, to help you out a little bit heres some information and things to do. like the others said before me, you need to talk to a business advisor type person/agency and find out about licensing for your business, taxes, etc. thats all in the details.

but start small. people dont know you're out there unless you find them. and when you do find them and word gets out and people put links to your site on their pages, then your name will get out and you'll have a fairly good business going. but it takes time, alot of time. however its worth it in the end.

you need a website too. a pretty flashy one and it should be the most elaborate one for you to design that way you can impress possible customers.

this may help, may not. but there it was from me...

P.P - i freelanced in amsterdam for a year or so but i had a dutch friend who sorted out all the legal stuff for me - she was an accountant and just told me where to sign the forms. find an accountant.

i'd recommend working full time for some different people first - its disheartening breaking something on a freelance job and you won't get asked back - break it for your fulltime employer and you won't make the same mistake again. freelancer's are used b'cos they don't need training, hopefully they don't even want a cup of coffee, they're just gonna sit down and do exactly what you tell them to do, possibly tell you a better way of doing it, and doing it bloody quickly.

i don't think you need a flashy website, more important is proven understanding and word of mouth recommendations. you can spot a blagger as soon as they sit down.

just remember, its a small world out there, you'll bump into the same people over and over again. they'll remember you for what you did for them the first time...

good luck. zeker veten!

well you may not need a flashy website, but a flashy website attracts customers moreso than a boring website.

a badly made flash website is worth nothing! A well made 'boring' page is worth loads!

"because most web users and web programmers dont care about speling"

Such irony.....anyway, try telling that to a programmer trying to debug a 10,000 line script full of spelling mistakes.

Agreed.

Know what my pet English peeve is?

"Loose" and "Lose". It's amazing how many dimwits dont seem to understand that those are two distinctly different words with different meanings.

Well, time to get back to eating my after DINER DESERT.
