Need advice on training
Hi there, I dropped from my graphic design degree on the first year and started free-lance design/web developing. About a month into doing that i was offered a full-time position at an advertising agency, and have now been there around a year and a half. I consider this very lucky and am worried about future employment considering I have no degree. Anyway, what I want to know is if there are any recognized qualifications/courses I can gain to put on my CV. Ideally a web design/development inclined course that focuses on clear/accessible design. Can anyone help?? |

It's pointless doing a course thats less than a degree unless you want to actually learn something specific. by which i mean given the reasons you have given, you'd only be taking it for 'cosmetic' purposes to impress potential employers on your CV. if you're already working for an established and well-regarded agency, and your portfolio is good then you shouldn't have a problem with employment. Some agencies want the applicant to be educated to degree standard or higher, but thats usually only important for people with little or no industry experience. |

Thanks for the reply, I have a portfolio that I am pretty confident with and am aware that this is my biggest selling point. But still I feel a little unsubstantial, I suppose I wont find out for real until I move on. Thinking about it, I think its to do with my confidence more than anything else |

Your pretty hung up on this sheepy. If you want qualifications you are better looking for a specific skill - training in software (usually) equates to fuck all. Training in methodology or hard coding like PHP is what a potential client will look for. Not a certificate in how to motion tween a ball in Flash or create a webpage using DW. The portfolio demonstrates skills in the software not poxy qualifications from the local tech college... of knowledge. Boxxx To answer you first question: link You can learn all you need by reading for free. Web design qualifications are a waste of time. |
