They're good for a first timer - that's who I use(d). They don't let you have as much control over your account as many other hosting companies and it's a pain to cancel service (if you want to). Your login names (for FTP, e-mail, and so on) are generated by them, so they end up as things like u3584023 instead of "chubbyjesus". That bugged me.

There's better out there, but there's also a lot worse.

1&1 is one of the bigges hosting providers worldwide so I'm not supprised that they have a good service. They should be reliable to have significant growth.

Best Regards

Very true.

Also having a shitty problem with them at the moment. My site was hosted on a free 3 year account (they had a promotion 2 years ago) that belonged to a friend - he just gave user/pass and I used it.

We have been trying for WEEKS to get it cancelled as neither of us are using it. You have to print some dumbfuck form, fill it out, sign it, fax/mail it to them and wait until such and such.

It's fucking obnoxious. Should be able to cancel online almost instantly.

Yep. They make it very difficult for you to cancel anything.
Also try asking them for help transferring and you'll only get answers about transferring to them, not away from

Joewebber and pgo hit the nail on the head. They offer good services for a good price and its not bad. However, the moment you need any support, you should be prepared for a hassle. We use to have a dedi with them sometime back and I remember the issues with that. There were not many. However, the second you need to do something out of the ordinary, its a task x 100.

1 And 1 need to get their shitty act together.
They have NO IDEA what 'support' means - some bird in Bombay reading 'Dummies guide to the www' is no help to web developers..

Grrrrr.......

What about web hosting with resellers acounts - I saw one recently which basically allowed you to bolt on another "package" for every new client as required. Can't find the URL anymore..

There are lots of those. My host, for instance, will allow you to pay an extra $5/month to have reseller access - to create hosting accounts for people.

couldnt agree more... you'll hear different things from different support advisors fromday to day which is very frustrating when you need to resolve something quickly
