Fasthosts & my personal information

I signed up with fasthosts a few months ago and quickly cancelled my account as I wasn't getting the type of service I needed. Closing the account wasn't straight forward as I would have hoped, but We got there in the end...

Quote:
Thank you for your email, I can confirm that your account has been closed and a refund processed.

Today I receiuve this...

Quote:
Fasthosts: your credit/debit card has expired

The credit/debit card registered on your Fasthosts account 260834 has now expired. As a result, we have temporarily suspended your Fasthosts account. However, this will not affect your website and email.

Now will have to check my credit card statements to see if I''ve been debited and get them to cancel an account again.

It's ridiculous. And it happens regularly. There should be legislation in place to compensate customers when such errors occur. Too often companies set up systems that do not behave as they should (where that is intentional or not is another question) and the result is extra grief and time wasted for us.

I originally signed up with them after talking to a sales person and getting a confirmation that they could provide what I required: to be able to set up a parallel version of my website on their servers before changing DNS, to make the transfer as smooth as possible.

Once I signed up I realised this would not be possible as they couldn't provide me with a temporary URL to get the database, mail, etc... working. Basically I would needed to switch before being able to transfer files, set the dbase, transfer the dbase, etc...

So I cancelled my account and got confirmation of this on 4/1/2005 by email. And today I have received an automated alert saying that my credit card details have expired. So my questions are...

Why do they still have my credit card details on record?
Have they charged me since January?

Hassles I really wanna do without.

"Have they charged me since January?"

Check your bank statement.
