Web serving service for pdfs
Hi there - I'm starting up in a web-based project, where our products will be downloadable, about 10MB each in size. I spoke with a web hosting company who said that, if we're looking at around 50,000 downloads taken a month, that we'd need a dedicated server to handle that sort of traffic. It will cost us around 2000GBP per year to run this, but was wondering if anyone else knew of a better or least cheaper alternative? Last edited by H.Yates : 03-02-2005 at 13:32. |

Okay, thanks Lyndon, I'll look into that. Somebody on another forum has suggested looking into a p2p service, a "p2p swarming download technique". Or, in full, "Bittorrent or a similar p2p swarming download technique. Run a single cheap dedi server from somewhere like serverpronto or valueweb as a master seed, and you're laughing".Does anybody know what that is all about?! |

Yep that would be a good and cheap way of doing it. It would only really work if there were a lot of people wanting to download it though. Basically you'd use a bit torrent tracker to upload your file, people would start downloading it then when other people request the file they start to download pieces of it off each other. Its good for you as its using other peoples bandwidth. Look up bit torrent and trackers on google, theres a few forums that should help you out get started. |
