Becoming a reseller?

I was poking around the web this morning and I was looking at various "reseller" programs for domains and hosting.

What exactly would this entail if someone wanted to get into this game? Are reseller programs with a 99$ fee a scam? How easy/hard is this to do (I'd imagine just being a domain reseller is far easier than selling hosting).

Please don't get me wrong, anyone who is doing this: I don't think it's something that is totally simple. I was just wondering, what would this business actually be like?

Thanks...

Not a scam but there are better deals, for example eNom $8.95 reseller domain accounts are generally available for free (from me for example) but will require a $100 topup.

Reselling webhosting can cost from a few quid a month if you look around BUT please think about the implications of running a hosting company - 24/7 support, tech knowledge etc....

You answered your own question... 10.00 per month. Low margins-high volume, figure if they do it right, they will make about 100% profit or 5.00

well im currently a reseller for hosting and domain names and i am finding it hard to find people but we have only jsut set up and jsut started advertising our site on forums and ebay and local area.

hosting isnt an easy thing to start up but domain names are a gd idea. we do domain name reseller accounts for £5 activation but then you cna upload as much money as you like as long as you have enough for the clients your ok.

Becoming a reseller is a good thought, but I don't think that you can start it with that low budget.
I think to work as a good reseller, you need atleast a budget of $ 15000 for getting infrastructures and employing 2- 3 staff etc.

Indeed. I could take a $5/month hosting account - with, say, 20GB transfer, add reseller rights for $5/month and charge three people $5/month to host their sites.

I could make $5/month!!!
