web-mania hosting....never again
This is the worst expirience I've ever had with a hosting company, EVER First of all my site is accessable 50% of the time, the other 50% the server will just hang. Secondly they recently lost all of my data and reverted to a version of my site from MAY this year and claim that they never backup, I don't understand because there's plenty of files in my directory now that i deleted over 6 months ago that have re-appeared, could some one explain this to me. they accept that these problems are 'their fault', but refuse me a refund, even though they claim that they provide 'reliable hosting' therefore they're breaking the implied contract, right? I don't really understand this stuff, would anyone be kind enough to try and explain to me haha. thanks Tim |

Really sorry to here that. This company seems to be long enough on the market so they definetely have to know how to avoid such porblems. Why do you have downtime like this? Is it something relatedto sofware, scripts, databases or they just failed to provide good uptime? Regards Dimitar |

I've been hosted with Web-Mania for over 3 years now and I've never had problems like you describe. 50% downtimes is a bit extreme, and if it's true then you certainly should be getting at least a part refund from them. On the occasions that I do get downtime I usually just use the LiveHelp feature or email them, and they sort it pretty quick. Another other point is that Web-Mania's server 9 is known to be a dodgy server, so you may be getting problems if you're on there. Just ask them to move you to a different server, one of my friends done this just before Christmas. I think Web-Mania's services are great and it's only £20 a year for a ridiculous amount of features!!! |

I agree that with Web-mania, I've experienced more down-time than usual, although nothing close to 50%. More like 0.05% of the time. I estimated about 10 hours in a week, if you factor in 7 days and 24 hours a day (thus 168 hours). That's still damn good if you ask me. Of course, you might be having a fair share of problems due to one particular server. Also, there have been a few exceptional incidents where they were less than helpful/friendly, but atleast they did provide some technical support and gave me some kind of answer. On the whole, I still like them. I use to be hosted by Lycos (do they still do their own hosting?) and I tell you, that was a bloody nightmare. They pulled my site offline for over 4 months, for claiming to have not paid them for 1 months fee (I dont know how, my bank account was adequatly filled). I kept sending them emails telling them that I was willing to pay them immediately and even pay for 2 years hosting, to prevent such a thing to happen again. But they continued to ignore me, then get back to me a month later and ask again what the problem was (starting from the beginning) and then I wouldnt hear from them for another month, and then they would call asking why I haven't paid, etc etc... what a nightmare... Web-mania may not be perfect, but atleast you get pretty good service, and a pretty good deal. My 2 cents. |

Ive been hosting with web-mania for around 9 months now, the only real problems i have with the company is the versions of php and mysql as there knocking on abit now and testing certain scripts i have built then finding out i cant test them on my server is annoying, but like others say for £20 a year you cant complain with there customer service and features they offer. |

I've got 2 websites on web-mania, my personal one and another one that I am migrating to DataGate. Definitely one to avoid if you're building a site for a client. For £20 a year it is a great deal, as long as your business does not depend on it. Downtime is considerably higher than any serious hosting, their mail servers are slow and i often get errors checking/sending emails and then you have strange occurances like today when they seem to roll-out changes to their set-up without proper testing and notification (resulting in PHP scripts failing). Support is actually good. They have someone who is reachable via a chat pop-up 24/7 and who usually resolves issues. Here's an example: Quote:
In this case they were helpful in fixing problems but not explaining why they occured in the first place. |

Not having much luck with Datagate either... arrghhhh! Support is slow. it's one of those scnearios where you get quick replies that of problems that haven't been fully investigated. The end result being that one has to escalte issues to get them to have a proper look. Because of this I haven't been able to get proper site stats and are left without a email as I switch from POP to MS Exchange. I just want to cry |
