Home pc web hosting

hey everyone n nice to see u

i have a question: i am sure that many of you are working on any kind of hosting business so you should be able to answer me.

i have recently set up an adsl connection on my home. i ve got about 7.000kbps Down Stream and 1.000kbps Up Stream.

wouldn't this be just fine to set up a web server, not for my clients, just for my personal work? it has dynamic ip so with dyndns will work just great.

what do you think? what do i need to start over with this?
any tutorials?

thanks in advance guys

For personal use it would be fine. Although if you plan to actually run a live website from your home box, it wouldn't be able to handle the connections because the upload speed isn't fast enough. Many datacentres have upload speeds of up to 2Gbps which is much much more than a feeble 1,000Kbps. It's possible to run a website from your home pc, but it's likely to use up all your bandwidth usage and wind you up with a hefty bill.

Should be fine as a personal server. I have one similar as a testing & development machine.

Also have a look at using MAMP. It is really useful as it will install the basics you need such as apache, mysql, php, perl & some extras.
