do you buy your domains all from one company? if so, who and why?
Currently I use 123-Reg, though that will change once I become a registrar. Why? - Cheapest .co.uk I've seen, and the other tld prices are ok. - Control Panel is ugly but does the job. - No lock-ins, or transfer away fees, like with cunts such as UK2 or 1and1. - Sometimes have offers on, buy a .com for 2 years and get a free .co.uk. - Only 1 nag screen to buy their other services, other companies bully you into it and even if you click "no, domain only" you get to the checkout with a total twice as much as the advertised price cos they added their extra crap in. I suppose someone like GoDaddy is cheapest for .com/.net/.org but they don't accept switch/maestro cards and I can't be arsed with bank charges for paying in $. This thread is really a bit of market research as I am looking to price match the main UK based registrars, and offer a simple and painless service with plenty of features as standard. So if you have any gripes with your current registrar, use this thread to rant about it, and we will be sure not to share their business practices! Last edited by freelancr : 25-02-2008 at 19:12. |

I must admit, I use GoDaddy pretty much for all registrations. It's not so much the price, but the fact that they're so big, that they're unlikely to go under anytime soon. When a registrar goes belly up through bankruptcy, it can seriously fuck up a large number of people, as was demonstrated when RegisterFly went down with 850,000 domains. Customers were helpless and couldn't even transfer their domains elsewhere because the company ceased operating. Eventually, I believe GoDaddy stepped in and took control of them. |

GoDaddy here, for the same reasons as Hunch, plus the price and level of service. Used uk2 way in the past. Big mistake. I wanted to consolidate all of my domains so tried to transfer from uk2 to GoDaddy but uk2 refused. There's not a chance of getting anyone on the phone - their support is absolutely atrocious! They offer a good price when you sign up then slip in hidden extras at renewal time. Lost a few domains because of those cunts. Also used tonic.to to register seen.to |
