Has anyone used 1 and 1 webhosting?
My pops recently bought me a six month server hosting at 1and1.com and I like it so far but sometimes webhosting only works fine for a month or so then gets really slow. So right now I am stuck with it and the only problem I have had is that the e-mail is down more then average. Does anyone have an critics of this hosting site because I am pretty much married to it for another 6 months |

Their ad's piss me off but I've never used them. They talk as though they know what they are talking about design wise where as imo they haven't got a danny. Of recent annoyance is a photo with a woman using a Mac keyboard/mouse which they decided to flip horizontally without even realizing that the numpad is now on the wrong side. They spent shitloads on advertising their templates which is detrimental to your business, (or more importantly mine |

i've had a dedicated server for about 2 years with them. wanted to move to another host for my upgrade but could find anyone who could offer the same value for money. freelancr recommende a company whos name i can't remember right now (it's early ok), but they wouldn't even give me a price list after me phoneing the sales team 6 times! essentially, I've had no problems with them and now have my new server with 1and1. i know a lot of people here have had problems, but i think they're fine. not great but ok. I've had terrible problems with 1&1. I wouldn't recommend THEM at all !! you do get a lot for your money - and if it all works fine and you don't need to deal with them for any issues, then fair enough ... But I'd rather pay good money to get decent support - and they are really, really BAD when you need them ... the effort and time spent speaking to a nice, but stupid indian lady that could not even grasp my simple, and clearly spoken request ... grrr ... avoid them like the plague. fuck signatures

I used them once and will never use them again. Worst web host I've ever used. Find good advice in the beginners web design thread.

i use them, due to the fact that a website i made for my brother about 4 years ago was payed for by free webhosting on his account. Eventually i will pay for my own cause he's still paying for it. Not had any problems with the site being down or anything and email was working ok with thunderbird. When i come to move i might switch to something else but for now they do me fine. I only like 1&1 because we get a lot of their former customers ;-) <Shameless plug>: host with venturewise.com Pasted from our testimonials page: "The biggest reason I left 1&1 Internet Hosting was that the servers were slow, and the customer service was terrible. One instance I can recall working with their tech support, every question I asked was met with "One moment while I check on that". I asked to speak to either a manager, somebody who new more, or the person that he kept running to. To which I got no where. A simple question (regarding an FTP password reset, which the control panel would not allow me to do) took a 'tech' 15 minutes of 'checking with somebody else'. The password never got reset and when I canceled, I lost ALL of my data. I would recommend VentureWise hosting to everybody for business or personal sites. The customer support has been exceptional and very speedy. The servers run at exceptional speed and have great uptime." </shamless plug> |

I was with 1&1 and decided to try another CHEAP host last year Streamline.net but these guys are cowboys! they deducted £110 from my account when they state that the fees should only be £19.99 p/a! As soon as I get this resolved i will be going back to 1&1 ..... unless someone has any other suggestions? |

I was with Fasthosts, who were pretty good. They merged or were taken over by 1&1 and it all went down the pan. I'm now with united-hosting and highly recommend them. Might not be the cheapest around, but great product and excellent customer service. For those of you on windows hosting, they only offer unix. unitedhosting |
