I paid for hosting a year in advance, and the service is always down.

The hosting I bought isn't cheap, could pay a bit more and get a dedicated server. The price was either £50 a month, or £500 a year, so I "saved" myself £100 and paid yearly. It is UK based shared hosting with telephone support (9-5), and it gives me access to Windows and Linux servers so I can host PHP/MySQL and ASP/ASP.NET/MSSQL websites on unlimited domains (10GB space & bandwidth). It is reseller hosting, and because of the poor service, I have lost a few hosting customers and couldn't do anything about it.

The websites themselves do not go down, but phpMyAdmin is constantly broken and seemingly can only be fixed by restarting the MySQL server - which I have no control over. I would use the MySQL GUI Tools, but they aren't as good when it comes to importing and exporting on live websites - something always fucking goes wrong.

I first reported the problem on August 12th 2007, and since then I have reported it 12 more times, and it still is down now. Several times I have asked to be moved to another mysql server on their cluster, as apparently this problem only affects this server, but they always refuse.

Now I cannot upload anything, or even make a directory, on my website. I was trying to upload something last night but constantly got "Disk Quota Exceeded" error and the transfer fails. Odd I thought, they give me 10GB of space and give me a bandwidth limit of 10GB a month. I am only using 130mb out of my 10GB limit, and about the same on my bandwidth, I am only hosting a few websites which aren't busy - so this error is more than a tad annoying.

So then, as I rely on this hosting to earn a living, and I cant upload files nor can I access my databases. I have paid for a year in advance, and have over 6 months left, do you think I am entitled to a refund for the remaining months? If I can't get a refund, then I will have to wait until I am paid again till I can afford to get hosted elsewhere - which is a bit of a catch 22 situation.

Can anyone recommend UK hosting? I was considering getting a dedicated server from Managed Dedicated Servers, Network and Colocation Services at RapidSwitch as they have been recommended to me by someone who has several servers with them for a few years, and their price is very competitive.

a2b2.com used to have great service - will still have if rus foster is still @ the helm, the guy is a real tech not some faceless suit

i'm with xencon.net now - german - which is vps only; great service, great package/price; switched from a2b2 only based on package availability at the time (a2b2 wasnt offering xen which was an issue for me, they are now i believe) never had any problems with them.

and yeah, i'd be shouting for a refund.

Of course you're entitled to a refund - you're not getting the service you've paid for.
Whether you'll ever get one is another matter entirely since they seem very reluctant to pay attention to customer requests.
Good luck anyway.

Some host just oversell their hosting plans to attract clients but they fail to provide good support. I am feeling sorry for your situation.
If you are not satisfied with your host you can claim for refund anytime and almost all host do it as their service.
Better go with a host who is available for you 24x7 to serve you and do have a good reputation in market.

I can help you for getting better UK host if you want, Please PM me your requirements.

I'm with United Hosting and have had no problems with them. I've been with them for a few years now and can't remember the last time the sites were down: UK Web Hosting - UK Reseller Hosting - UK Managed Dedicated Servers - UK Domain Registration Services.

They've got great customer support, very quick to answer.

Oh dear. I've not had any bother with them so far, but I do think their prices could be a little cheaper. Dunno.

Rapidswitch would be a good choice for you. They have a strong network, run a lot of servers and Ed (the owner) is a good guy!
