I'm getting a bit worried here. My questions: How do you know when a domain name lease is due for renewal? Does your host remind you or do you have to chase it up yourself? How long is a lease normally, 1 year? I'm asking cos I got a letter the other day concerning renewing one of mine. It was from a company I'd never heard of telling me that they can renew it for me (for a fee of course), I just assumed it was spam. Should I be renewing it? It's coming up to one year soon. Sean |

seanF...don't believe anyone but official e-mails from the COMPANY where you registered the domain (the registrar you used). I use namesecure.com and they send me an e-mail auto-notifications. I can customize when I receive them and when they are e-mailed to me up until when the domain name itself expires. I have all my domains registered there and I have NEVER missed a renewal. I'm not trying to push/plug a specific company, but you should go with a registrar that offers this sort of service. This way, you can ignore the SPAM (and yes, it was SPAM) from other companies offering to renew it for you. Not to mention, when I log into my account, there is a listing of all the domains I own and their expiration date is the FIRST thing I see. Namesecure also keeps me aware of spam that circulates like the one you got: We recently learned that many of our customers are receiving domain name renewal notices from companies falsely representing themselves as NameSecure. These notices misinform customers that their domain name registration is due to expire and provides instructions on how to transfer their service and renew. If you receive renewal notices you do not believe are from NameSecure, or if you have an unauthorized vendor listed on your credit card statement for 'domain name renewal', please contact us immediately at _________@namesecure.com. Come to think of it, I will plug them...damn, they're good. fun: HGC v.4 | last.fm: DT | me | oi! f*ck u roto: ...via meebo!

(Why does this thread keep cropping up in the 'contains new posts' list** when (before this post was made) it hadn't changed since the above post was made almost a month ago? (** it just listed this thread as containing a post Today 10:53 (®oto)) Beta bug, Oli? |

And the award for 'the person most clearly missing the point' goes to... Mik, it's done so I don't have to type, retype and retype my systems specs when reviewing other people's websites. It often helps for them to know that stuff when tracking down problems or verifying that something's running as it should. Capisce? |

and the award for most obvious reply goes to... no shit sherlock - state the obvious bill but does anyone look at that when they are asking for reviews - i think not. I know what its for but "some" people take it to far. |
