I do indeed. Unfortunatelly it isn't complete and i don't intent to link to the IMDB.

Also (and this is a personal opinion) I dont feel that it is appropriate to emulate a Saul Bass theme to portray the work of such an individual designer. It detracts form the work itself and lets face it its just a straight rip.

I'd hardly say a site is a rip - its a homage to the man for godsake!!

The site must be 4 years old by now and hasn't been updted for a long while - Brendan Dawes is a busy man after all.

But saying its a rip? Thats like saying when Tarantino made Jackie Brown it was nothing more than a rip of of every 70s blaxploitaion movie ever made.

I don't have a problem of being influenced by a specific style, but take that style as a starting point and add your own thoughts and interpretations - to simple extract elements and bring them togther as a solution is in my opininion........

sigh

I have to agree with pixelpyro.

Tribute or not - one can adapt the style or try to emulate it - but it will never be the real thing! From a conceptual point of view (here we go again) I don't think anybody is qualified to 'interpret' anybody's style.
The best presentation 'frame' is a neutral one!

---
I had a similar 'problem' when watching the movie 'Frida'. Adding 3d effects to her paintings and stuff - all very impressive and pretty and VERY vell done but...
Especially the hallucination sequence at beginning of the film - again, very 'pretty' - but how the hell (?!?) can the art direction dare to visualise / 'materialise' such a sequence? / ...write it in the first place?
err, anyway... apart from that - I liked the movie ( Salma )

Couldn't agree more - but then thats pretty much common sense.

But as Brendan Dawes commented:
"The Saul Bass site began as a simple tribute to Bass’ genius. “I really put the first version of the site up just so that other designers who were interested in Bass could come together and make something better,”

Now to me it fulfils the brief perfectly. As an education tool to inform and enlighten people to the work of Saul Bass then again it does its job, and by mimicing his style then in my opinion it only goes to enforce what the site is setting out to do.

common sense is not a matter of course

maybe we should wait and see what pixelpyro comes up with and then we'll be able to see eachother's point of view
