Mates Rates Hosting

I've finally got an invoice from my hosts and just thought I'd run it by you lot.

Now I'm pretty confident that the offer is "mates rates" - he's a top bloke, and has always seemed genuine, the deal is:

£50 for 30mb webspace & five emails, for 1 year. Plus a friend on the end of the line to hepl with any questions (and I know where he lives!)

does that sound good to everyone, I'm sure it is, it's just the business, synical, and - more to the point - broke side of me questioning whether I can get cheaper

Cheers, James

You can get it cheaper but it's all relative...the cheaper you go the more cramped the server, the less maintainance is done on that server and then the more problems you have down the line. (I'm not a hosting guy but I guess that's how it works)

Saying that though, my personal hosting is cheap as chips and I've never had any problems, the guys a star and he's always around on MSN (day and night) to bug.

I get 1000mb UNIX Web Space, Unrestricted POP3 Mailboxes and Unrestricted Email Addresses all for the bargain price of £60 for 2 years!

that's the thing - he's always about (and on MSN) and I've had it for over a year and this is the first invoice (covering the next year). I'm very tempted by the sheer convenience. At the moment there's nothing on the space except and HTML+Flash site.

If you are happy with it and he's always around then cool.
If you want to look for a new host then check out www.webhostingtalk.com - theres loads on there that will give you a better deal.

For a small business type site you can't go wrong at £15 or £25 per year.

£23.99 + vat gets you a better deal than your mate is offering:

Thanks people, if I can get off my arse and do something before the payment's due, I think I'll move over to someone else.

I think the guy providing the hosting would be happier if his clients moved onto other hosts - because he's only carrying on the hosting from a previous media company he worked for that no longer exists.

Woh, Deja Vu! I'm sure I just read this post somewhere else and replied to it!

That's the trouble with browsing a few different forums when you're bored! This one is still my favourite dudes :P
