Transfer web domain?

I'm just looking at buying a domain for a client, and having a little trouble getting the desired one.

I've been asked to try and get a .com or .co.uk, but according to the domain search (123-reg) these are taken. However, although it says the ones I want are taken, it also says that they can be 'transferred', .co.uk can be transferred for free, and .com can be transferred for .com.

What does this mean? WIll I be able to use them?

Cheers

It means if you are the current owner of them you can transfer them over to 123-reg so you can manage them in their control panel, and obviously pay them to renew it.

If you don't own the domain name, then you can't transfer it over.

Thanks for the speedy response! Shame about the answer...

If you are desperate for the domain name, the owner may just have bought it to sell it on later. Id think of a different name though if I were you.

If you're really in love with that domain name, we have a product call DomainAlert Pro which will track that domain and let you know the moment it becomes available.
