recovering domains from out of business registrar

One of my clients has bunch of domains (.co.uk and .com's) that he registered through a company that seems have gone out of business.

We're going to have to go through nominet etc. to try and get them moved over to his control via his 123reg and godaddy account - sigh.

I know it's a nightmare but I haven't done it before - does anyone have any good guides or advice on the process?

What was the company? - if they were a reseller for one of the larger ones - enom, godaddy etc then you can get them back from them quite easily.
