.com domain name - status: redemption period? how long?

Right then I am after this domain name that has expired over 2 months ago, when I checked for it a year ago it was registered, but wasn't being used.

It seems now the previous owner has forgotten to re-register it, and it has expired and gone into a redemption period. Upon Googling this it says the Redemption Period lasts 30-45 days after the domain expires.

It has been 2 months now and I still can't register it, how do I find out when it will be ready for sale again?

I don't want it enough to do any of these dodgy backorder or domain sniping things, as none provide any guarantee or refund.

Use snapnames.com - they'll grab it the moment it expires, if its worth anything (PR, backlinks etc) its unlikely you'll get it on your own.

I know what you mean, I had a domain expire in 2002 that had about 200k downloads (per month) for game mod I made. Even 5 years on it is still one of those dodgy search engines with adverts on it.

The domain I am after has 0 PR, and has no links to it. There hasn't been a website on it for as long as I have wanted it, but didn't want to e-mail the owner as it suddenly would be worth £9999999999999999.

I will have a look at snapnames.

Just taken a look at it, I have heard bad things about these Auction sites. Apparently a bot bids against you if you are the only bidder and stuff like that.

I think I'll just wait, cos the minimum bid is $60, and I ain't paying that for this domain name, it's nothing special.

Snapnames are quite good, I got one from them the other day - they only charge you the $60 if they manage to get it. I didn't have to bid against anyone for it either.
